Six Youths, Including Four Minors, Nabbed Over Dangerous Wheelie Stunts In Kuala Lumpur

Date:

Police have arrested six youths, including four minors, believed to be involved in performing dangerous motorcycle wheelie stunts on several major roads in Kuala Lumpur.

The arrests were made following the circulation of a viral video showing a group of motorcyclists carrying out reckless stunts along some of the capital’s busiest streets.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zamzuri Isa said the incidents were believed to have occurred at about 3.30am on May 23, although footage of the stunt riding only surfaced on social media on May 31.

The 44-second video showed several motorcyclists, some carrying pillion riders, performing wheelies and other dangerous manoeuvres along Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan P Ramlee.

According to Zamzuri, the first arrest was carried out at around 3.20am on June 1, involving a 20-year-old male rider and his 16-year-old female pillion passenger.

A second operation conducted at approximately 12.54am on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of two additional male riders aged 17 and 16, along with their female pillion riders aged 18 and 15.

Police believe all six individuals featured in the viral video and were directly involved in the dangerous activities.

Following the arrests, all suspects were taken in for questioning. However, they were later released on police bail after their statements were recorded, as four of those detained are minors.

Authorities are continuing investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Police have also reminded road users that performing dangerous stunts on public roads not only violates the law but also endangers the lives of riders, passengers and other motorists.
