A 43-year-old businessman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of an 18-year-old teenager in a crash that shocked the community last month.
The accused, Asrizal Hisham Khalid, entered the plea at the Magistrate’s Court after the charge was read before Magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Shariffuddin.
According to the charge, Asrizal allegedly drove a Volkswagen GTI in a dangerous manner along Jalan Losong Feri on May 19, resulting in the death of Wah Han Keong, 18, at approximately 3.36pm.
He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by dangerous driving.
The court granted the accused bail of RM10,000 with one surety. As part of the bail conditions, his driving licence was suspended until the case is concluded.
Magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha also fixed August 3 for the next mention of the case.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ameena Azzuhriyyah Ahmad, while the accused was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
The charge stems from a fatal crash on May 19 involving a Nissan Vanette carrying the victim. The accident drew widespread public attention after reports stated that Wah died in horrific circumstances, with his head believed to have been severed during the collision.
The tragic incident sparked shock among local residents and renewed concerns over dangerous driving, as the case now proceeds through the courts.
