The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is tracking down the driver of a vehicle seen engaging in dangerous behaviour after a viral video showed a female passenger sitting facing him inside a moving car without wearing a seatbelt.
JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan confirmed that authorities have launched an investigation following the circulation of the video on social media.
According to him, enforcement action will be taken against both the driver and the passenger once they are identified.
“JPJ will take action against the driver and the passenger involved by issuing summonses for the offences committed,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.
The incident sparked widespread concern online after footage emerged showing a man and woman engaging in intimate behaviour while the vehicle was in motion.
More alarmingly, the woman was seen sitting in a position facing the driver rather than occupying her seat properly, while also appearing not to be wearing a seatbelt.
The dangerous act drew criticism from road users, many of whom warned that such behaviour could easily lead to a serious accident and endanger not only those inside the vehicle but also other motorists.
Authorities have reminded the public that all passengers must wear seatbelts and remain seated properly at all times while travelling, stressing that reckless conduct on the road will not be tolerated.
Investigations are ongoing to identify those involved and determine the appropriate enforcement action under existing road traffic regulations.
