Police Track Down Daughter Of Woman Detained In Nigeria Over 31kg Cannabis Case

Date:

Authorities are tracking down the daughter of a 63-year-old Malaysian woman who was detained in Nigeria after allegedly attempting to smuggle 31kg of Canadian Loud cannabis.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police were informed of the arrest by the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and have since launched investigations to locate the woman’s daughter and record her statement.

In a broader context, international drug trafficking cases increasingly involve multi-country travel routes, making cross-border cooperation between enforcement agencies essential in disrupting such networks.

He said NCID is working closely with relevant foreign authorities, including those in Thailand, to assist in completing the investigation.

It was previously reported that the Malaysian woman was arrested by Nigerian authorities at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos after allegedly attempting to smuggle the drugs disguised in luggage.

She had reportedly travelled from Malaysia to Thailand before continuing her journey to Nigeria via Dubai.

Preliminary investigations suggested she was carrying two large suitcases containing the suspected cannabis.

Authorities continue efforts to trace related individuals as investigations into the case proceed.
