Gas Explosion Leaves Teacher With Severe Burns In Taman Baiduri Home

Date:

A 29-year-old teacher suffered severe burns after a suspected gas explosion occurred in the kitchen of his rented home in Taman Baiduri, Kuala Ina, near here, yesterday morning.

The victim, identified as Mohamad Edham Zul, a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Mansor Shah in Tampin, was believed to have sustained burns covering about 50 per cent of his face and hands.

In a broader context, household gas-related incidents continue to highlight the importance of safety awareness and early detection of leaks to prevent potentially life-threatening accidents.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, said the incident occurred at about 10.26am after the victim reportedly heard a suspicious sound believed to be caused by a gas leak.

The victim is said to have checked the source of the sound before a sudden explosion occurred in the kitchen area.

He was given initial treatment by the Fire and Rescue Department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team before being handed over to Health Ministry personnel.

Checks at the scene found significant structural damage, including the roof, doors and windows, with scorch marks and soot concentrated in the kitchen where the blast is believed to have originated.

The victim’s sister, Nurul Atiqah, said his condition was stable and he is expected to be transferred from Kuala Pilah Hospital to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further skin graft surgery.

She added that both the victim’s child and wife were safe in the incident.
