Dr Sim Says SUPP Machinery Must Mobilise As State Election Looms

Date:

The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has directed its election machinery across the state to be fully prepared, with the possibility of a state election being called within the next 100 days.

Speaking during the party’s 67th anniversary celebration in Kuching on Wednesday night, SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian urged grassroots branches to immediately ramp up readiness and mobilise for campaigning efforts.

He stressed that party members must remain alert and proactive, adding that the coming period would be crucial for political groundwork as preparations intensify across Sarawak.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Deputy Premier, said SUPP has already shortlisted its candidates and is fully prepared for the electoral contest whenever it is called.

He also reiterated the party’s long-standing position of “Sarawak is for Sarawakians”, saying the slogan will continue to be central in its political messaging and campaign direction.

The party, he added, will continue to advocate its stance on state rights and the Malaysia Agreement as part of its broader political agenda.

Dr Sim also expressed confidence in the ruling coalition’s standing, referencing earlier remarks made at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak convention on April 19, where he suggested that opposition representation could be significantly weakened in the next election.

He had previously indicated that the coalition was aiming for a dominant performance in the state assembly, suggesting that opposition parties in Sarawak could face further setbacks.

The current Sarawak Legislative Assembly consists of 82 seats, with Gabungan Parti Sarawak controlling 79 seats, while the remaining seats are held by one independent assemblyman and two DAP representatives from Pending and Padungan.

The state assembly’s term is set to expire on December 18, although it may be dissolved earlier to pave the way for the next state election.
