Tensions Surge As US Hits Iran After Drone Threat Near Hormuz Strait

Date:

U.S. forces have struck Iranian coastal radar sites after shooting down drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz, in a sharp escalation that further complicates ongoing efforts to end the conflict between Washington and Tehran.

According to the U.S. military, four Iranian drones were intercepted after they were believed to be targeting maritime traffic in the region. American forces then carried out strikes on Iranian surveillance installations located in Goruk and Qeshm Island near the strategic waterway.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by launching missiles at U.S. bases across the region, claiming the attacks were in retaliation for earlier U.S. strikes. The group also reported firing on several tankers attempting to pass through the strait without approval.

Regional tensions widened further as air defence systems in Kuwait intercepted incoming missiles and drones, while sirens were activated in Bahrain, prompting residents to seek shelter amid fears of further escalation.

Iran has also claimed responsibility for hitting U.S. positions in both countries with ballistic missiles, although U.S. officials said most of the incoming projectiles were successfully intercepted or failed to reach their targets.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil, has effectively become a flashpoint in the conflict, with shipping activity heavily disrupted as tensions continue to rise.

Diplomatic efforts to secure an interim deal remain stalled, with both sides trading accusations while conditions on the ground continue to deteriorate.
