A large-scale drug trafficking syndicate believed to be operating across borders has been dismantled following a joint operation by the Police Marine Police Force (PPM) Region Two and the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Muar District Police Headquarters.
The operation, codenamed Op Taring Landai – Intra/Inter Agency, was carried out around 12.30am yesterday at Parit Amat Laut after authorities acted on intelligence gathered on suspected drug smuggling activities in the area.
According to Johor PPM Region Two Commander, Assistant Commissioner Noor Azman Jamal, police spotted a boat and several vehicles behaving suspiciously upon arrival at the location, where individuals were seen transferring packages believed to contain drugs into a boat.
Acting on the situation, enforcement teams moved in and successfully detained two local suspects, a 63-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, believed to be acting as transporters for the syndicate.
General enforcement operations like this are part of ongoing efforts to curb cross-border drug trafficking, which continues to pose a serious threat to national security and public safety.
A thorough inspection of the boat and vehicles led to the discovery of multiple sacks and black plastic packages hidden onboard and inside vehicle compartments.
Police estimate the total seizure value at over RM57.15 million, involving 517 packages marked ‘Guanyinwang’ believed to contain methamphetamine weighing 549 kilogrammes, along with 191,268 ecstasy pills and 4,000 cartridges filled with liquid drug substance known as Yakuza.
The seizure also included seven cars worth approximately RM204,487, a fibre boat and two Yamaha Enduro 85HP engines valued at RM70,000, bringing the total value of confiscated assets and drugs to more than RM57.42 million.
Authorities confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
