The Penang State Education Department (JPN) is prepared to offer counseling services to the couple of teachers involved in an incident at Taman Tunas Muda, Sungai Ara.
State Education Director Mohammad Dziauddin Mat Saad said both teachers are currently on medical leave. He confirmed that the female teacher has been discharged from the hospital, while her husband, who is also a teacher, remains under treatment at the same facility.
“JPN is ready to provide counseling, particularly for emotional recovery, as part of standard procedures similar to situations involving death or other incidents requiring psychological support,” he said.
Mohammad Dziauddin added that the department is monitoring both teachers’ progress and will reassess their situation and readiness for counseling.
He also urged the public not to make assumptions or speculate about the incident. “According to the school principal, both teachers are high-performing, active, and have no prior issues at the school. At the department level, there have also been no concerns. We ask the community to refrain from drawing conclusions and wait for the police investigation to be completed,” he said.
Reports yesterday stated that the 28-year-old woman suffered neck injuries, while her 30-year-old husband sustained injuries to his neck and arm after she allegedly attacked him with a knife. Southwest District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, confirmed that the female teacher has been discharged from Penang Hospital, while her husband remains hospitalized. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
