The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states across the country, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to continue until 9pm on Saturday, June 6.
Among the affected areas in Perak are Batang Padang and Muallim, while in Kelantan, the warning covers Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai.
The warning also includes the entire state of Terengganu, as well as several districts in Pahang, namely Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera, Pekan and Rompin. In Selangor, residents in Hulu Selangor and Gombak have been advised to remain alert.
Meanwhile, in Johor, the affected districts are Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi. Multiple divisions in Sarawak and Sabah are also expected to experience adverse weather conditions throughout the evening.
According to MetMalaysia, the warning is issued when weather indicators show thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than one hour.
Authorities reminded the public that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance, and urged residents in affected areas to stay updated on the latest weather developments.
