An eight-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a brick allegedly thrown from the rooftop of a residential building in New Taipei City, Taiwan, on Friday.
The incident occurred in the Sanchong district when the child was walking home alone after returning from a school activity. According to the boy, he heard a loud noise moments before a brick suddenly fell from above and hit his arm.
The youngster returned home in tears, repeatedly complaining of pain. His parents initially believed he had suffered a minor bump, but were shocked to discover a large bruise on his arm after rolling up his sleeve to inspect the injury.
Residents later discovered that multiple bricks had allegedly been thrown from the rooftop of a nine-storey apartment block. Debris was scattered across the ground, while at least one parked vehicle was also damaged during the incident.
Local residents initially struggled to identify where the objects had come from. However, information provided by members of the public eventually helped authorities trace the source to a rooftop unit within the building.
The victim’s family expressed concern over the severity of the incident, saying the outcome could have been far worse if the bricks had struck the boy’s head. They also claimed additional bricks were thrown after the first impact, forcing the child to quickly move away from danger.
Police later detained a resident believed to be responsible for the act. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect is a man in his 40s. Family members of the suspect have reportedly offered compensation for damage caused to nearby vehicles.
Authorities have classified the case as a suspected attempted murder investigation, and the suspect has been referred for further legal action. Residents are now urging authorities to take firm measures, describing the incident as a serious threat to public safety.
