Malaysia has once again called on the international community to suspend Israel’s membership in the United Nations (UN) and to impose comprehensive sanctions on the Zionist regime.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia had previously raised the issue at last year’s UN General Assembly (UNGA) and he intends to repeat the call at the upcoming session.
“It is time for Israel to be suspended from the UN, and all nations must impose sanctions against Israel. I raised this in the UNGA last year on behalf of Malaysia, and I will reiterate this call to ensure Israel is suspended or removed from the international community. These sanctions should include arms restrictions, preventing weapons used to kill the Palestinian people from reaching Israel,” he told reporters after a contribution handover program by the Rembau Member of Parliament at the Rantau Community Hall on Thursday.
He added that international documents previously formulated clearly state that Israel must be prevented from continuing its efforts to dominate and destroy Gaza.
“This is a form of modern colonialism carried out by Israel, and the international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the actions of the Zionist regime,” he said.
Earlier, an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in response to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza. The meeting aimed to coordinate the positions and actions of member states regarding the crisis.
The OIC, representing 57 Muslim-majority countries, traditionally positions itself as a defender of Palestinian rights and the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
