Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, expressed his frustration today after personally experiencing a 20-minute power outage at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Terminal 2 (KLIA2). The incident occurred around 2:15 PM, plunging the terminal into darkness and halting all services.
Speaking at the launch of the official bus, taxi, and public transport platform (TTKLIA) at KLIA2, Loke called the outage “completely unacceptable” and demanded a full report from the relevant authorities within 24 hours, leaving no room for excuses or blame-shifting.
“I know this isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred, and in public transport, any technical failure lasting more than 15 minutes is considered serious. But at KLIA2, this is unacceptable,” he said.
Loke, who usually arrives 15 minutes before events, said witnessing the outage firsthand made it impossible to downplay the situation. “The terminal should have backup power. Why didn’t the system activate? Why were the elevators and escalators out of service? This must never happen again,” he stressed.
He instructed Malaysia Airports Holdings and the terminal management to investigate the cause of the outage and implement measures to prevent any recurrence.
