Six people, including a six-month-old baby, were killed while another child was seriously injured after an SUV collided with a sand-laden lorry in Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal today.
The victims who died were identified as Ahmad Shafiq Ahmad Shukri, 27, who was the driver, along with Nora Mhd Husin, 55; Jamaliah Sannusi, 27; Ahmad Fahim Ahmad Shukri, 21; and two children aged seven and six months whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
Another child, Aulia Sofea Ahmad Shafiq, aged three, sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The accident involved a Proton X50 and a 10-tonne lorry carrying soil, which collided head-on from opposite directions.
Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Tikam Batu fire chief Assistant Superintendent Fauzi Shuaib said the department received an emergency call at 3.46pm.
He said teams from Tikam Batu and Sungai Petani fire stations were deployed to the scene shortly after.
Upon arrival, rescuers found seven occupants in the SUV, with six confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry (KKM) personnel.
The injured child was rushed to hospital by ambulance, while the lorry driver escaped unhurt.
