The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Terengganu successfully rescued a male hiker who sustained a leg injury while descending Gunung Chemerong in the Pasir Raja Forest Reserve today.
JBPM Terengganu Senior Assistant Fire Director Shahrin Yusmar Mat Yusof said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.21pm yesterday, prompting a six-member rescue team to be deployed.
The 48-year-old victim reportedly suffered a leg injury and was unable to continue his descent due to exhaustion, forcing him to seek assistance from rescuers while still on the mountain.
At the time of the alert, the hiker was located near Sungai Bangan Waterfall on Gunung Chemerong and was reported to be in stable condition.
Shahrin said the rescue team faced a challenging journey of about seven kilometres from the mountain base, taking approximately six hours to reach the victim due to heavy rain and difficult terrain.
He added that the victim was safely brought down to the Base Control Post (PKB) at the foot of the mountain at 11.55am before being handed over to medical personnel for further treatment.
The hiking expedition involved 27 participants, including eight women, from a teachers’ and school staff club in Selangor, along with four mountain guides.
