A 67-year-old retired man has been remanded for six days by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he was suspected of being involved in a rape case involving his 13-year-old biological granddaughter.
The remand order against the man was issued by Magistrate Arun Noval Dass to allow police to complete investigations under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
Based on initial reports, police received a complaint two days ago after the victim reportedly began confiding about the incident to her mother.
Investigations found that the victim had been living with her grandfather following her parents’ divorce before later moving back to a northern state in April.
The case came to light after the mother noticed changes in the teenager’s behaviour, prompting further questioning, during which the victim eventually revealed what had happened.
Police said the incidents are believed to have occurred throughout last year, with the last reported case in December.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect to assist further investigations.
