A 16-year-old male student from a secondary school in Ampangan pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of raping a 14-year-old female classmate inside a classroom last May.
The Form Four student’s plea was recorded before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti. The proceedings were held in a closed court as the accused is a minor.
According to the charge, the accused allegedly raped the victim at approximately 7:20 a.m. on May 2, inside a classroom at a secondary school in Ampangan.
The offence falls under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code. If convicted, the student could face imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than 20 years, and may also be liable to whipping.
Deputy Public Prosecutor P. Rubini offered bail at RM7,000 with one surety and additional conditions. The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, was to be bailed by his father, a retired soldier who requested a lower bail amount.
The court subsequently set bail at RM4,000 with the additional condition that the accused is not to disturb the victim or any prosecution witnesses.
The case has been set for mention on November 5.
