A university student was killed in a tragic road accident after the car he was driving collided with a lorry at the Taman Sari traffic light intersection in Rawang on Thursday afternoon.
The crash, which occurred at about 2.25pm on the road heading towards Country Homes, also left another student injured.
Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin said preliminary investigations revealed that the car is believed to have skidded into the opposite lane before colliding with an oncoming lorry.
The 18-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Sungai Buloh Hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision.
His body was later transported to the Forensic Department of Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police said the passenger, who is also 18 years old and a student at a private university, suffered injuries and received treatment at a nearby clinic.
The lorry driver escaped the incident without any injuries.
According to investigators, both victims were enrolled at a private university. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Rathana Kumar Vardaraju or the Gombak district police operations room to assist with the ongoing investigation.
