Two Arrested Over Knife-Point Robbery And Assault Of E-Hailing Driver

Date:

Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the alleged robbery and assault of an e-hailing driver in Kota Tinggi, less than 12 hours after the incident was reported.

District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said authorities received a report at about 2.46am regarding a knife-point robbery at the Tun Sri Lanang Bus Terminal.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, suffered injuries during the attack but did not incur any financial losses, according to police.

Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, officers arrested a local woman in her 20s near the bus terminal at approximately 11am on the same day.

A few hours later, at around 2.30pm, police detained a male suspect, also in his 20s, near Dataran Larkin in Johor Bahru. Investigators believe he was involved in the incident.

Police also recovered a knife believed to have been used during the robbery and assault.

Urine screenings conducted on both suspects returned negative results for drugs. However, background checks revealed that both individuals have previous criminal records.

The female suspect has been remanded for five days following an order by the Kota Tinggi Magistrate’s Court. The male suspect is expected to be brought before the same court for a remand application.

Authorities are investigating the case under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code, which relate to gang robbery and robbery involving the use of a weapon.

Meanwhile, social media posts circulating online have claimed that the victim required 10 stitches to his neck following the attack, although police have yet to officially confirm the extent of the injuries.

The swift arrests have been welcomed by members of the public, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the violent incident.
