PAS Raises Doubts Over PN Logo Approval Rules

Date:

PAS has described remarks by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin regarding the use of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo as confusing, saying the authority to issue official approval letters for the coalition’s emblem does not lie with any party president.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said any decision involving the use of the PN logo must go through proper channels and follow the coalition’s established procedures.

He explained that authorisation letters for the PN logo can only be signed by the PN chairman, not by the president of any component party.

“I think there is an error in his understanding. The authority or endorsement letter is signed by the PN chairman, not a party president,” he said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Mohd Amar added that Muhyiddin may have assumed the process could be done easily, stressing that such matters are governed by specific rules within the coalition.

He also said any announcement on contesting under the PN banner should not be made hastily without prior discussion in coalition meetings.

“If he says he wants to contest under the PN ticket, that is a different matter. But everything must be discussed in detail in PN meetings,” he said, adding that the statement appeared “a bit rushed”.

In the same briefing, Mohd Amar questioned Muhyiddin’s changing stance on the entry of other parties into PN.

He noted that when Muhyiddin previously led the coalition, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air and Parti Putra were not allowed to join.

However, he said that after PAS and Bersatu ended their political cooperation, Muhyiddin appeared to open the door to parties under Ikatan Perpaduan Rakyat (IPR), which had previously applied to join PN.

Mohd Amar suggested this reflected inconsistency in position, saying the matter should be discussed properly within the coalition framework.

He added that PAS would continue to monitor developments before making any further decisions on its political direction and its stance on parties seeking to join PN.
