Fake Doctor Who Faked Role in Zara Qairina’s Autopsy to Be Prosecuted

Date:

A man who impersonated a doctor and claimed to be involved in the autopsy of 13-year-old Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will be brought to court, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

However, Fahmi noted that further details regarding the charges against the suspect should be obtained from the police.

“He is a fake doctor and will be brought to court. For more details about the charges, you should refer to the police. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was only acting as a technical agency in his arrest,” he said after the 2025 Artificial Intelligence Grand Prix Conference today.

On 19 August, the man, who operates the TikTok account ‘Dato Prof Dr Tunku Iskandar,’ was summoned by MCMC under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities.

If charged and convicted, he could face a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in prison, or both. The police are also investigating under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

On 16 August, Fahmi revealed that the suspect had gone live on TikTok, claiming to have attended the autopsy of Zara Qairina on 10 August.

However, checks by the Ministry of Health confirmed that the man is neither a medical specialist nor an employee of the ministry.

Fahmi previously stated that Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad had verified the matter through an official report from the Deputy Director-General of Health (Medical), Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, who confirmed with the forensic expert handling the case that the suspect had no involvement.
