The Public Services Department (PSD) has announced 640 sponsorship opportunities for outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers as part of its continued commitment to developing the nation’s future talent pool.
The initiative is in line with the Madani government’s aspiration to ensure high-achieving students gain access to quality education at leading institutions both locally and abroad.
In a statement, PSD said the sponsorship programmes are designed to nurture talent in strategic and critical fields that support Malaysia’s long-term development goals.
For the 2026 intake, 30 places have been allocated under the National Sponsorship Programme, while 200 slots are offered through the SPM Leavers Special Programme.
Another 140 sponsorships are available under the Special Programme for Japan, Korea, France and Germany (JKPJ), while the PSD-MARA Special Programme (PKJM) provides 270 places.
The sponsorships cover a range of high-demand disciplines, including engineering, science and technology, as well as social sciences.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to pursue their studies at prestigious higher learning institutions in Malaysia and abroad, including destinations such as the United States, Australia, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
PSD said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to producing a highly skilled workforce capable of contributing to national growth and competitiveness on the global stage.
Students who applied for the sponsorships can check their application results online through the department’s system from 10am today until 5pm on June 22.
Recipients will receive financial assistance through the Academic Merit-Based Convertible Loan scheme, which was introduced by PSD in June last year.
According to the department, the scheme was designed to recognise academic excellence while encouraging students to maintain strong performance throughout their studies.
“The implementation of this loan reflects PSD’s commitment to rewarding outstanding academic achievement and motivating recipients to continue striving for excellence,” the statement said.
PSD also congratulated all successful candidates, describing their achievement as recognition of the dedication, hard work and academic excellence they have demonstrated.
The department expressed hope that the sponsorship recipients would make full use of the opportunities provided and contribute meaningfully to the country’s future development upon completing their studies.
