DAP will contest the Bukit Permai state seat for the first time in the upcoming Johor state election, fielding Mohamad Syafwan Ani as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate.
Mohamad Syafwan is no stranger to the constituency, having previously served as a special assistant to the Kulai Member of Parliament and actively engaging with local communities over the past few years.
PH deputy chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the candidate was chosen based on his experience and consistent involvement in grassroots work within the area.
He added that familiarity with local issues and community needs was a key factor in selecting candidates for the election.
“The chosen candidate has field experience and has always been close to the people,” he said after the Bukit Permai and Senai candidate announcement ceremony at the PH operations centre in Senai on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Loke also announced that incumbent Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang will be retained to defend his seat in the upcoming election.
DAP is aiming to win all three state seats under the Kulai parliamentary constituency — Senai, Bukit Batu and Bukit Permai — in a bid to strengthen PH’s position in the area.
Overall, DAP Johor will be fielding 17 candidates in the state election, including representatives from various ethnic backgrounds and a higher number of female candidates compared to previous polls.
The full list of remaining candidates will be announced by PH leadership at an official event in Tangkak on Monday.
