Popular Cheerleader Hospitalised After Alleged Stalker Attacks Her With Knife During Fan Event

Date:

A popular cheerleader from Taiwan’s CTBC Brothers baseball team was injured in a knife attack during a fan photography event in Taipei, with police investigating the possibility that the incident was linked to an alleged obsession by the suspect.

The victim, known as Wen Wen, was attending a fan event at a private studio on Friday when a 52-year-old man allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing injuries to her neck.

The incident sparked panic at the venue, with several people reportedly injured during the chaos.

Wen Wen was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities said her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police arrested the suspect, identified only by his surname Hsu, shortly after the attack. He was later referred to prosecutors on suspicion of attempted murder and other related offences.

According to local media reports citing police investigations, the suspect was unemployed and reportedly relied on financial support from family members. He also allegedly had a history of theft-related offences.

Investigators revealed that Wen Wen was aware the man was an overly obsessed fan. Her management agency had reportedly intervened in September last year and advised her to block contact with him due to safety concerns.

The agency also allegedly barred the man from attending future fan-related activities.

Police believe the attack may have been motivated by resentment after the restrictions were imposed, although investigations into the exact motive are ongoing.

The incident left four people injured, including Wen Wen and three photographers who were present at the event. All were taken to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities said the suspect became emotionally agitated following his arrest and initially refused to cooperate with investigators or explain his actions.

Questioning was temporarily suspended before resuming with legal representation present.

The shocking incident has sparked concern among fans and renewed discussions about the safety of public figures and the risks posed by obsessive behaviour.

Police said investigations are continuing while prosecutors seek further legal action against the suspect.
