Police Probe Viral Video Of Man In Military-Style Uniform Carrying Suspected Replica Weapon

Date:

Police have launched an investigation following the circulation of a viral video showing a man dressed in what appeared to be a military-style uniform while carrying a suspected imitation firearm in the Taman Bukit Desa area of Kepong.

Gombak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin said authorities received a report regarding the incident at approximately 4.31pm on Monday.

According to him, the report was lodged through the complaint counter at the Desa Jaya Police Station under the Gombak District Police Headquarters after the video began spreading widely on WhatsApp.

The footage, which quickly attracted public attention, allegedly shows a man walking around a residential area while dressed in attire resembling that of a security or military personnel and carrying what is believed to be a replica weapon.

Ibrahim said police have opened an investigation under Section 140 of the Penal Code for wearing the uniform of a soldier, sailor or air force personnel without authority. The offence carries a penalty of up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both upon conviction.

Authorities are also investigating the case under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, which relates to the possession and importation of imitation firearms.

Incidents involving individuals impersonating security personnel often trigger public concern, particularly when weapons or weapon-like objects are involved, as they can cause alarm among residents and members of the public.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Members of the public may contact Investigating Officer Inspector S. Prakash at 012-2940827 or the Gombak District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-6126 2222.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the individual and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
