A 28-year-old motorcyclist suffered minor injuries after crashing into the glass entrance of the Emergency Zone at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu early Tuesday morning.
Investigations later revealed that the rider tested positive for methamphetamine following the bizarre incident.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received a report about the incident from a medical assistant at approximately 5.03am.
Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred at around 3am when the suspect was riding a Yamaha Nouvo LC motorcycle from Jalan Sultan Mahmud towards the hospital’s emergency area.
“Upon reaching the location, the rider suddenly lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the glass door at the hospital’s Green Zone entrance,” Azli said.
The impact shattered the glass entrance and left the rider with minor injuries to both his hands.
A urine screening test conducted on the suspect later returned positive for methamphetamine.
Further checks also revealed that the motorcycle involved belonged to the suspect’s elder brother.
Police discovered that the vehicle’s road tax had expired on April 22, 2025.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and remains under observation.
Authorities are also conducting further investigations into the man’s driving licence status and employment background.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules (LN 166/59).
The incident has drawn attention due to the unusual location of the crash, with hospital staff and visitors startled after the motorcycle smashed through the emergency department’s glass entrance in the early hours of the morning.
Police have reminded road users against riding or driving under the influence of drugs, warning that such behaviour poses serious risks to both the individual and the public.
