Two people were seriously injured while six others sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision involving seven vehicles along Kilometer 291 of the North–South Expressway northbound on Tuesday.
The incident involved a mix of vehicles comprising a lorry, two vans, and four cars, including a Honda HR-V, Perodua Bezza, Perodua Axia and Toyota Vios.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said all victims managed to exit their vehicles on their own and no entrapment cases were reported at the scene.
Emergency services received a distress call at 4.29pm, prompting personnel from the Gopeng Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the location.
According to initial reports, the injured victims included the lorry driver and four individuals travelling in a Toyota Hiace van.
He added that three passengers from a Toyota Lite Ace were also involved, with two of them sustaining serious injuries in the crash.
Meanwhile, occupants of the remaining four vehicles were reported to have escaped without injuries.
Firefighters carried out initial assessment and stabilisation of the victims before handing them over to Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel for further treatment.
All injured victims were transported to hospital by ambulance for medical attention.
Firefighters also conducted cleanup works at the scene, including removing debris and clearing oil spills to ensure the expressway was safe for other road users.
The operation involving five firefighters and a Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) unit was brought under control at 5.50pm and fully concluded by 6.02pm.
