The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have detected two fake Facebook accounts impersonating the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), aiming to deceive the public and steal personal information.
Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, Director of Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK), said the syndicate uses the NSRC name to “fish” for victims’ personal details and illegally obtain money.
“NSRC does not have any social media accounts, including Facebook. The centre operates solely as a call centre receiving reports via the 997 hotline,” he explained in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that the centre functions in a one-way communication mode, meaning it only receives calls from the public. NSRC will never contact individuals through phone calls or messaging apps like WhatsApp.
“Any calls or messages claiming to be from NSRC are purely fraudulent,” Datuk Rusdi stressed.
To curb and prevent online fraud, PDRM urged victims to immediately contact NSRC at 997 to report incidents. “Ideally, the call should be made within 24 hours to increase the chances of freezing funds that have been transferred,” he advised.
