Two Men Detained After Entering Malaysia Via Illegal Border Crossing In Tumpat

Date:

The General Operations Force (PGA) detained two men after they were found entering Malaysia from Thailand via an illegal crossing point at Kampung Mentua, in an operation carried out yesterday afternoon.

The suspects, aged 33 and 45, are believed to have crossed into Thailand earlier to visit an entertainment venue in Golok before attempting to return to Malaysia through an unauthorised route.

Tenggara Brigade PGA commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad said officers detected suspicious movements when the two men were seen approaching the riverbank in a boat during surveillance at the location.

He said both individuals were subsequently arrested, and drug tests conducted on them returned positive results.

According to initial investigations, the suspects admitted to travelling to Thailand at about 2pm the previous day and returning to Malaysia via an illegal route, paying RM15 each to an unidentified boat operator.

He added that the case has been handed over to the Tumpat District Police Headquarters for further action, while investigations are ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
