UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) must secure victory in the Johor state election as a starting point for the party’s revival after what it described as a difficult period following the 14th General Election eight years ago, said UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan Nasional chairman said the win is also crucial to ensure Johor remains a stronghold for the coalition.
He said the priority is to win all BN candidates without arrogance, stressing that the party is determined to stage a clear comeback from Johor.
Zahid also said political contests should be conducted in a gentlemanly manner, adding that there should be no restrictions on political engagement in FELDA areas.
He made the remarks during the launch of the BN election machinery for the Parit Yaani and Parit Raja state seats.
Among those present were BN Secretary-General Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, BN candidates for Parit Yaani and Parit Raja, Datuk Najib Samuri and Rashidah Ramli.
Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said Johor’s political stability and clear strategy have made the state a key focus for both domestic and foreign investors.
He also acknowledged contributions made by previous administrations in developing the state.
He said the current administration under Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has brought notable progress to Johor.
Zahid further noted that the ongoing Johor election campaign has so far proceeded smoothly, with no personal attacks or sensitive issues being raised.
He expressed hope that the campaign would continue in a positive manner and concluded with confidence that efforts made would lead to strong electoral success.
