Popular “squishy dumpling” toys sold in the UK have been urgently recalled after safety tests found they contained dangerously high levels of a toxic chemical.
Authorities warned consumers to stop using the product immediately and keep it away from children due to potential health risks.
The recall involves “Squeezy Dumplings” distributed by a Cardiff-based wholesaler, after tests detected excessive amounts of benzene in the toy’s outer material.
Benzene is a hazardous chemical linked to serious health effects, and experts warn that prolonged exposure may increase the risk of certain cancers.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards said the levels detected were far above the legal safety limit, triggering the immediate recall.
Consumers have been advised to return the product and contact the supplier for further instructions, while also checking for proper safety markings on toys.
Authorities have also warned that counterfeit versions of the popular squishy toys are circulating in the market, raising further safety concerns for buyers.
