Government To Tighten And Restructure Foreign Worker Management

Date:

The government will restructure its foreign worker employment management framework to ensure a more coordinated, efficient and industry-focused system.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision was among the key outcomes of the Special Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers meeting, which he chaired at Parliament.

He said the committee reached several major agreements, including matters related to the committee’s membership and terms of reference to strengthen the overall governance of foreign worker management.

The meeting also agreed that the One Stop Centre for Foreign Worker Management will be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Human Resources.

Ahmad Zahid said the move is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and integrity in the management system while balancing industry demands, national security and employment opportunities for Malaysians.

He added that the government will also reassess the country’s foreign labour requirements based on the actual needs of each industry.

At the same time, he stressed that efforts to reduce reliance on foreign workers will continue through greater participation of the local workforce, the development of skilled workers and wider adoption of automation across industries.

He said every policy and decision on foreign worker management will continue to prioritise the country’s interests and the well-being of its people.
