A 45-year-old man who had reportedly just been released from prison was found dead on a grassy roadside along Jalan Kota Bharu–Kuala Krai, near Kilometre 25 in Machang, on Thursday afternoon.
According to Machang District Police Chief Superintendent Azuhar Md Nor, police received a report about the discovery at approximately 3.47pm. The victim, who was from Kota Bharu, is believed to have been released from prison shortly before his death.
Preliminary information indicated that the man had been seen walking in the area before he was later found lying face down on the grass without a shirt and unresponsive.
A medical team from Hospital Machang arrived at the scene and confirmed that the man had died. His body was subsequently examined by forensic officers from the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) Criminal Investigation Department.
Initial forensic findings revealed no visible injuries or signs suggesting foul play. Police have since classified the case as a sudden death pending the outcome of a post-mortem examination.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Hospital Kuala Krai Forensic Unit to determine the exact cause of death.
Police checks also found that the deceased had one previous criminal record under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which relates to committing mischief causing damage to property.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation that could interfere with the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the nearest police station to assist investigators.
