A tragic accident occurred this morning at the Tanjung Agas bridge in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, when a car carrying a family plunged into a river, leaving a nine-year-old boy dead and his younger sister injured.
The Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 11.44am about a Nissan Teana that had fallen into the river. Preliminary reports confirmed four people were inside the vehicle. The parents, both in their 40s, were rescued earlier by members of the public.
The eight-year-old girl was rescued from the car at a depth of three meters at 1.28pm and immediately taken to hospital. The nine-year-old boy was recovered by the water rescue team at 1.47pm and was confirmed dead.
The rescue operation involved over 30 personnel, including firefighters, health ministry staff, and police, who worked tirelessly to retrieve the victims from the river. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and the car was driven by the father.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, while the community mourns the loss of the young boy and prays for the recovery of his sister.
