A two-month-old baby narrowly escaped death—tragically, unsuccessfully—after being snatched by a group of monkeys in Suraipur village, Uttar Pradesh, India, on Thursday.
According to the family, the infant, who had recently received treatment at a trauma center in Lucknow, was left in the courtyard of their home while the mother took a bath. It was then that the monkeys entered the property and abducted the baby.
The incident was noticed by neighbors, who immediately alerted the family. The family attempted to track the baby and eventually found the child lifeless inside a water barrel on the roof.
The baby was buried the same day without notifying authorities. News of the death surfaced the following day, prompting a police investigation and a post-mortem procedure.
While investigators have yet to release an official conclusion, early findings appear to support the family’s account, with reports of similar incidents occurring elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh.
