80 Foreign Workers Detained In Johor Factory Raid Under Ops Mahir

Date:

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Johor has dismantled illegal foreign worker employment activities at two factories in the Larkin industrial area following an enforcement raid under Ops Mahir yesterday.

The operation, conducted at around 9am, targeted a component manufacturing factory and a well-known snack production facility.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said a total of 80 foreign nationals were detained for allegedly working without valid passes or permits and for failing to produce proper travel documents.

A local employee believed to be serving as a human resources officer at one of the premises was also detained to assist investigations.

He said the operation was carried out following weeks of surveillance based on intelligence regarding employers allegedly hiring undocumented foreign workers to reduce operational costs.

The detainees comprise individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Myanmar, involving both men and women aged between 19 and 48.

JIM Johor said the case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963 for various offences related to illegal employment and documentation.

All detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and follow-up action.
