Three men were killed while another sustained minor injuries in a crash involving two four-wheel-drive vehicles at the ‘P’ U-turn on the Sarikei–Sibu Pan Borneo Highway on Saturday night.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said in a statement that it received an emergency call at about 8.30pm before a team from the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the accident involved a single-cab and a double-cab 4WD vehicle.
The double-cab vehicle was carrying three adult men, with one victim thrown out of the vehicle while two others were trapped inside. The single-cab vehicle was driven by a man who sustained minor injuries.
Firefighters used rescue equipment to extricate the two trapped victims before all casualties were handed over to Health Ministry personnel.
The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to the police for further action.
The cause of the crash and the identities of all victims have yet to be confirmed and remain under investigation by the authorities.
