Two Indonesian women were killed after the Honda CR-V SUV they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a surau within the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Jawa 2 compound in Selising early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at about 6.34am, with both victims, aged in their early 30s and 50s, found trapped inside the vehicle and confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Azhar Elmi Mustofar said emergency crews were dispatched immediately after receiving a distress call regarding the crash.
He said the accident involved a six-member Indonesian family comprising five women and a man, who was also the driver.
Two of the female passengers were found pinned inside the SUV, and firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to extricate them from the wreckage.
However, both women were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The remaining four occupants, including the driver, sustained injuries and were handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were later sent to Hospital Tengku Anis in Pasir Puteh for post-mortem examination.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
