Firefighters Talk Down Man Dressed As Woman In Flyover Suicide Attempt

A man believed to be dressed and behaving as a woman was rescued after a suicide attempt at a flyover along Jalan Bercham in Ipoh on Sunday morning.

The incident, which occurred at about 9.42am, was quickly brought under control after members of the public and emergency responders intervened at the scene.

According to the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, firefighters from the Meru Raya station, assisted by personnel from Ipoh station, were dispatched immediately after an emergency call was received.

Upon arrival at 9.55am, rescue teams found a 24-year-old man on the flyover in the midst of attempting to jump.

The operation commander assessed the situation before instructing firefighters to carry out a rescue effort involving verbal persuasion and counselling for around 15 minutes.

Authorities said the coordinated effort by rescue teams and members of the public successfully prevented the man from jumping, with the victim later found to have injuries on his hand.

He was then handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further medical attention and treatment.

The operation involved seven firefighters with a Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) unit, alongside six police personnel and two healthcare workers from the Ministry of Health (KKM).

The situation was brought under control at about 10.40am, with the operation officially concluded at 11.10am.
