Police Launch Probe After Viral Video Shows Man Allegedly Assaulting Woman In Kuching

Police have opened an investigation following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing a man assaulting a woman during an incident at Metrocity, Kuching.

Kuching District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu said authorities received a police report on 4 July, prompting an immediate investigation into the case.

Preliminary investigations found that the incident allegedly took place at around 8pm on 3 July in the common area of a rented accommodation in Metrocity.

According to police, the altercation is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the woman and the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, an offence punishable by up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

Alexson urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information that could interfere with the ongoing police investigation.
