BMW Driver Arrested After Allegedly Fleeing Fatal Hit-And-Run In Kuala Lumpur

Date:

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man believed to have fled the scene after allegedly causing a fatal road accident involving a motorcyclist along Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning.

The crash occurred at around 6am, when a 29-year-old motorcyclist riding a Yamaha 135LC in the left lane near the TH Selborn building, heading towards Bulatan Pahang, was allegedly struck from behind by a BMW.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the impact threw the victim onto the road, causing severe head injuries.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, while the BMW driver allegedly fled without stopping to render assistance.

Following further investigations, police traced the vehicle believed to have been involved and discovered it was being used under a hire-purchase transfer (“sambung bayar”) arrangement.

The suspect later voluntarily presented himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at around 6.30pm to assist with investigations.

He was subsequently arrested under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police also conducted a breathalyser test and a preliminary urine screening, with both tests returning negative results for alcohol and drugs.

Mohd Zamzuri said investigators are finalising the investigation papers, which will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on Tuesday for further action, including possible charges in court.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or visit the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
