Sabah’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) has dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate following a series of raids that led to the arrest of six suspects, including a husband and wife, and the seizure of more than 160 grammes of methamphetamine.
The operation, carried out on Monday, also resulted in the confiscation of 161.49 grammes of syabu worth an estimated RM16,000, along with a compact car and several mobile phones believed to have been used in the syndicate’s drug distribution activities.
Sabah NCID chief Assistant Commissioner Alhusin Halil said the first raid was conducted at about 7pm in Kampung Tanjung Kapor, where police arrested three men aged between 24 and 32 after they attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of officers.
A search of one of the suspects uncovered four packets of syabu weighing 60.54 grammes hidden inside a bag. Further investigations led police to arrest another 27-year-old man at a nearby People’s Housing Programme (PPR) area.
About an hour later, officers launched another raid behind Dewan Kampung Muhibbah, where a 24-year-old woman was arrested. Police seized two packets of syabu weighing 100.95 grammes from her possession.
The woman’s arrest subsequently led investigators to her 30-year-old husband, who was detained later that night at the Kudat District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Urine screening tests found that five of the six suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the female suspect tested negative. Police checks also revealed that several of the suspects had previous records related to drug offences.
All six suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties for drug trafficking offences.
Alhusin said the Sabah NCID will continue intensifying intelligence gathering and enforcement operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks and track down any remaining syndicate members still at large.
“We will not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking. Firm action will continue to be taken to ensure these criminal activities are eradicated,” he said.
