A Bangladeshi man was killed after being struck by lightning at the East Coast Expressway (LTU) construction site in Kuala Atok, Dong, yesterday evening.

Raub District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman, said the incident happened at about 7 p.m. when the victim had gone to the site to look for his younger brother.

He suffered severe injuries to his left leg from the lightning strike and was rushed to the Benta Health Clinic for treatment. However, medical officers pronounced him dead upon arrival.

“The victim, identified as Md Shahangir, 37, was living in Kuala Lumpur and had come to the construction site a day earlier to visit his brother. He was struck by lightning while walking from the workers’ quarters to the construction site to meet his sibling, who was working there at the time,” Shahril said in a media statement.

The victim’s body was later sent to Raub Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
