A Form One student at a secondary school in Alor Gajah caused panic after allegedly chasing three schoolmates while holding a paper cutter following claims that he had been bullied.
The incident took place at about 2.50pm on Thursday while a programme was being held at the school’s open hall.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said initial investigations found that the 13-year-old suspect acted after allegedly being repeatedly hit with pieces of ice by two schoolmates.
He said two male students aged 13 and 14 had allegedly thrown ice at the suspect several times before the situation escalated.
“The suspect then took out a paper cutter from his pencil case and chased one of the victims for about 50 metres towards the school surau area,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Ahmad said two other students who were with the victim also fled the scene out of fear that they could be harmed.
However, the situation was brought under control after a teacher managed to calm the student down and persuaded him to hand over the paper cutter.
He said no injuries were reported involving the students or teachers following the incident.
The suspect’s family was later contacted and brought the student home, while the teenager was reported to have received treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, with his latest treatment session recorded on June 3.
“Investigations also found that all students involved had disciplinary records since the beginning of this year,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
