Malaysia Records Over 42,000 Dengue Cases As Fatalities Increase

Date:

Dengue cases in Malaysia have increased by 34.8 per cent, with 42,848 cases recorded as of yesterday compared with 31,790 cases during the same period last year.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement today that dengue-related deaths also rose significantly, recording a 78.9 per cent increase to 34 fatalities compared with 19 deaths reported during the same period in 2025.

Epidemiological analysis showed that nearly two-thirds of the country’s dengue cases, or 63.5 per cent, were concentrated in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 19,313, representing a 43.2 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya recorded 7,909 cases, marking an 83.8 per cent rise.

The MOH said dengue cases also increased in several other states, including Johor, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Sarawak, Perlis, Terengganu and Labuan.

It said the situation showed that the Klang Valley remains the main dengue hotspot in the country, requiring stronger and more coordinated control measures to curb the spread of the disease.

“Although some states recorded a decline in cases compared with the same period last year, this should not create a sense of complacency,” the ministry said.

The MOH urged the public to strengthen dengue prevention efforts by ensuring surroundings are free from Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, carrying out regular cleaning activities and seeking early medical attention if experiencing dengue symptoms.

The ministry added that it would continue closely monitoring the dengue situation while intensifying prevention and control measures to reduce infections, prevent complications and deaths, as well as protect public health.
