A suspect escaped after the Toyota Vios he was driving was pursued by police from Bulatan Mawar, Pandan Indah to Jalan Dato’ Dagang, Kampung Sungai Ramal yesterday morning.
The incident took place at about 3.10am when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) team from the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters attempted to inspect a white Toyota Vios and a Toyota Hilux that were found behaving suspiciously at Bulatan Mawar.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said both vehicles fled in an aggressive manner after police instructed them to stop.
He said the suspect also hit a road divider and drove against traffic from Batu 9 Toll Plaza towards Batu 11 Cheras Toll Plaza, causing additional MPV units from Ampang Jaya and Kajang district police headquarters to be deployed to track down the vehicles.
According to him, at about 4.18am, police managed to block the Toyota Vios at Kampung Sungai Ramal, but the suspect fled from the vehicle into a dark area.
An inspection of the car found an object believed to be a toy pistol, while further checks showed that the Toyota Vios was using a fake registration number.
No arrests have been made so far, and police are continuing efforts to locate the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960.
