A joss paper factory in Taman Industri Rawang suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out this afternoon, destroying an estimated 80 per cent of the building.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 1.01pm reporting the blaze at Jalan Batu Arang, Sungai Bakau.

Assistant Operations Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said firefighters from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene within six minutes and found the fire engulfing a Class B factory measuring approximately 200 by 300 feet.

He said firefighters immediately launched firefighting operations and successfully brought the blaze under control about 35 minutes after efforts began.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

A total of 20 firefighters from the Rawang, Batu Arang, Bukit Sentosa, Selayang and Damansara fire stations were deployed to tackle the blaze.

The operation involved a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), two water tankers and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.

Firefighters continued extinguishing remaining hotspots using water supplied by the two tankers while overhaul operations were carried out to ensure the fire was fully contained.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and the total value of the losses is still under investigation.
