Journalists and supporters gathered at Malaysia’s Federal Court on Monday were treated to breakfast boxes containing nasi lemak and lempeng, courtesy of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, ahead of the highly anticipated verdict in his final appeal.
The food was distributed to members of the media covering the proceedings as well as supporters who turned up at the Palace of Justice to show solidarity with the former Youth and Sports Minister.
Syed Saddiq’s sister, Sharifah Amani, said the meal was personally sponsored by her brother as a gesture of appreciation for everyone who was present.
“The food is a contribution from Yang Berhormat (Syed Saddiq),” she told reporters outside the Palace of Justice.
This is not the first time Syed Saddiq has provided refreshments to journalists covering his court proceedings. On previous occasions, he also arranged meals as a way of thanking media personnel for their commitment and professionalism throughout the lengthy legal process.
The Federal Court is expected to decide whether Syed Saddiq will be acquitted or whether his conviction will stand over four charges involving the alleged abetment of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering linked to funds belonging to Armada, the former youth wing of Bersatu.
