A 29-year-old local man was arrested during an ‘Op Tapis’ operation carried out by the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) Task Force on Wednesday night for suspected involvement in drug abuse.
Meradong district police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the suspect was detained at about 8.45pm in the Bintangor area during the enforcement operation.
Following the arrest, the suspect was brought to the Meradong District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office for a urine screening test, which returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Tansli said further checks found that the suspect had previous records involving drug-related offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.
He said police would continue strengthening enforcement operations against drug-related activities and would take firm action against those involved.
Tansli also called on members of the public to assist authorities by sharing information related to drug activities in Meradong, with reports able to be channelled to the Bintangor police station.
