PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has claimed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is now using an Islamophobia narrative as a political strategy after allegedly failing to capitalise on sentiments linked to Islam.
In a Facebook post under his Minda Presiden PAS series on Thursday, the Marang MP alleged that the narrative was being driven by DAP, which he claimed had become the dominant force within PH following its strong performance in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Abdul Hadi said the term “Green Wave” was first introduced by DAP leaders after PAS emerged as the party with the largest number of parliamentary seats in GE15, while also retaining control of four states and making significant gains in several others.
He added that PAS currently has representatives in every state legislative assembly except Sarawak.
According to Abdul Hadi, DAP turned to what he described as an Islamophobia campaign after allegedly failing to benefit from political groups that promoted Islam through what he characterised as a selective and secular approach.
He also criticised the use of the term Madani, claiming it was being presented as a universal concept without being guided by Islamic principles.
Abdul Hadi further alleged that some individuals had aligned themselves with DAP while using the slogan Islam Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin, accusing them of remaining silent on issues such as economic hardship, corruption and abuse of power.
He claimed that government initiatives, including the Rahmah sales programme, did not address the root causes of economic challenges faced by the people.
The PAS president described Islamophobia as prejudice against Islam and Muslims, arguing that a proper academic understanding of Islam, coupled with an appreciation of Malaysia’s multicultural society and the historical position of the Malay Muslim community, would prevent such perceptions from arising.
He also alleged that certain DAP leaders had challenged the historical status of the Malay community as the indigenous people of the region, while claiming that the party’s growing influence within the Unity Government posed challenges to the constitutional position of Islam, the Malay Rulers and the national language.
Abdul Hadi further claimed that allowing these developments to continue could weaken the political position of the Malay Muslim community in Malaysia, while reaffirming PAS’ commitment to defending what it described as justice and the constitutional rights of Malays and Islam.
